Review of My Name Is Bruce (2007) by Akirazen X — 11 Apr 2009
All in all a fairly immature and even amateurish movie that's humor points reflect back to Campbell's cringe-worthy "Crimewave" days. But when you go into the movie expecting something along those lines (it helps to have seen Campbell's other more recent low budget, non-Raimi projects), this isn't so bad.
In fact, as Campbell embraces this whole style and class of filmmaking, it's even quite enjoyable; lame special effects aside. The constant tongue-in-cheek attitude and many nods to the viewer (such as the actors who play "Jeb" in Evil Dead 2 and The Blacksmith in Army of Darkness appearing here and saying how their characters from their respective films would have been just as helpful as Bruce Campbell for fighting a monster) helps make the movie fun; like the audience is in on a special joke.
Finally, the behind the scenes extras on the dvd, while not the movie itself, really expand on the whole experience as the film itself breaks the fourth wall so frequently. Seeing the making of the fake film Campbell is making within the movie on the DVD is a real treat.
