Review of My Name Is Bruce (2007) by Mike M — 22 Apr 2009
A pantomimic re-run of the plot of "The Game", complete with hillbilly chorus, much knockabout comedy, and a sense of humour as broad as its leading man's jaw... it feels apt that, just as Campbell's contribution to film history has been in dispatches, his own movie should be full of funny footnotes: just before he's called away, this Bruce is seen working on "Cave Alien 2", a sequel to a film for which his agent Raimi assures us "the customer reviews on Amazon were excellent".
"JCVD", postmodernism as a last resort, looked marinaded in genuine despair at its leading man's prospects, but Campbell's chances of career rehabilitation seem altogether more robust.
Asked if he's ready for a spot of midnight-hour demon-hunting, his response is affirmative: "Kid, I made a movie in Bulgaria; I'm ready for anything.".
