Review of My Name Is Bruce (2007) by Henrik H — 10 May 2009
The basic premise of the movie is intentionally hackneyed. In fact, there seems to be nothing incidental about the campy and fan-boy appealling nature of this film. The film does not take itself seriously, which allows it to both offend and excite fans, depending entirely on the viewers preference.
If the viewer believes that the self-aware pastiche is an art form, then this movie is solid gold. I cannot in good conscience condemn a movie that solidly hit the mark for which it was aiming, because even when the bar is low, it is rare to see a film make its point so perfectly.
It is a splendidly crappy movie, and no one should watch it expecting anything else.
