Review of My Name Is Bruce (2007) by Michael C — 05 Jun 2009
Bruce Campbell has been in some of the greatest cheese movies of all time, so when I heard he is making a movie where he plays himself fighting a Chinese monster, of course I had to see that.
The budget for this film must have been eight dollars. This is clearly an indie production, and they made the movie with tongue firmly in cheek. Nevertheless, there are huge problems. The actors are all pretty bad and everyone, including Bruce, overacts like a motherfucker. The jokes are extremely lame, and I think the writers should keep their day job. There's even stupid physical humor, which could have been funny in a Bruce Campbell movie, but the gags are just poor.
There are some funny situations, mostly because of the insanely rude character Bruce plays. Technically he is supposed to be himself, but clearly he is not. It might have been funnier if he had been the real Bruce, though.
My expectations were probably way too high, but it's Bruce Campbell dammit! This stuff is too B-movie, even for him.
