Only Bruce Campbell could pull off a movie so ridiculous, so terrible, so cheesy, and make it work. And even then, this odd little movie does not always work. In fact, quite often it is pretty terrible.

It's the story of a man named Bruce, a B-movie actor struggling with low-budget movie projects, while his personal life falls apart around him. Suddenly he is called upon by a young boy who thinks Bruce can save a town from an ancient evil.

Some have called this movie Evil Dead 4, but I think not. Sure, there is an evil creature, plenty of blood splattering and lots of cheesy dialog, but this is more of a mockery of Campbell's career than anything else. There is a lot of entertaining stuff here, but Campbell really does go over the top with the campiness. In fact, while Bruce is fun to watch, it is the mother of the young boy, played by the surprisingly attractive and shapely Grace Thorsen, who steals the show with her acting ability. Frankly, I found her performance to be far better than this movie deserved.

This is a fun little horror comedy, but I would not call it a very good movie. Even for a Campbell movie, it was just too silly at times. The reason why this does not fit into the Evil Dead series is not because it lacks the Ash character, but because it lacks the truly scary feel that the Evil Dead movies had. Campbell fans should get a kick out of this movie, but only as a rental. Non-fans might find some humor here, but I doubt it.
