Review of My Mummy (2008) by Keith J — 15 Feb 2009
I'm probably one of dozens who have ever even heard of this film, excluding the cast and crew, or anyone else involved with the production.
The director is a storyboard artist who has worked with the Coen Brothers on all of their films since Raising Arizona, including last year's Best Picture winner, No Country for Old Men. A few fellow BSU students and myself met him last spring, and since then, me and a friend have been listening to his radio show and been in contact with him ever since. A while ago, he and his radio show co-host were pushing this film they made. Being a good sport, I decided to buy it. And that's the story of how I've seen this film.
As for the film itself, in the director's own words, it's definitely "not a perfect movie". Though that quote is taken out of context... anyone who knows of his radio show knows what I'm talking about. There's some pretty good make-up effects... and a cool scene involving a car crashing through a wall... but other than that, it's very campy, very low-budget, and very weird.
