Review of My Man Godfrey (1936) by Jareth S — 12 Nov 2010
This is one of the greatest screwball comedies of all-time. As a big fan of William Powell, it's hard for me to choose between this film and THE THIN MAN (though that one also has Myrna Loy, whom I adore).
Godfrey is found on a scavenger hunt as a 'forgotten man' at the local dump and is made the butler of very eccentric rich family. Carole Lombard (Powell's real life ex) is a lot of fun as a daffy socialite and Eugene Pallette is enjoyable as the rich patriarch of a crazy family (he was also the ale magnate in THE LADY EVE -- another of the great screwball comedies).
