Review of My Little Pony: The Movie (2017) by Draven R — 21 Nov 2018
Big adventure for the bigger screen.
In a departure from the TV show the Mane 6 leave Ponyville and explore the world beyond it. This opens up the movie to new characters and places and more adventures.
Herein lies my biggest issue with the movie.
I love the movie, it's great easy entertainment that you can put on on a drizzly Sunday afternoon and enjoy the songs and the gentle humour etc.
The issue tho, for me at least, is there's just too many places and new characters. I'd have much preferred it if they'd cut out a couple and explored 1 or 2 places much more.
The first town they came too looked huge and sprawling, loads of interesting characters to explore. Why couldn't the help they seek have been in that city and their adventure took place through the back alleys and underworld of that place? Could have invoked some Beyond Thunderdome references for the elders amongst us. Queen of the Hipppogrifs running a Bartertown like place..
Complete with a crazy Thunderdome knock off where they have goof offs...
But. For what it is, it's entertaining, bright, funny, loads of songs and the whole family can enjoy it without too much fuss.
