Review of My Little Pony: Equestria Girls - Legend of Everfree (2016) by Sylvester K — 09 Oct 2016
After four years of this, I'm tired of trying to come up with eloquent explanations for why I love this guilty pleasure of mine so much. It's rubbish, and that's exactly why I like it, though sans irony.
Instead, let's just say this - the music wasn't as good as in Friendship Games, but the story was better. It's no Rainbow Rocks (I doubt any other Equestria Girls film will ever surpass that one), but it still makes me happy and stuff, so there. I liked the fact that SciTwi had mild PTSD, and the whole Midnight Sparkle debacle (YAY RHYME) wasn't simply brushed away (mirroring how Rainbow Rocks dealt with Sunset Shimmer's coming to terms with her actions in the original). These films really are better, and more clever and substantial, than they have any right to be - but I suppose that comes from being an offshoot of one of the most brilliantly-handled subversive cultural phenomena of the decade.
Stop judging me for the five stars, dammit.
