Review of My Kid Could Paint That (2007) by Alexavier R — 17 Feb 2008
This is a greatly absorbing documentary about a 4 year old whose abstract paintings sell for thousands of dollars. The film begins as a simple portrait of the young girl but soon spirals towards a film that raises questions about the validity of modern art, the pressures of media attention, and the balancing act that is good parenting.
The little girl becomes almost a back ground fixture in the film as the adults in her life attempt to steer her story into their own direction. The film pushes a little too hard in the final 20 minutes and the movies unwillingness to take an opinion is a choice that leaves one with more frustration then thoughts.
Overall though this is an absorbing documentary that takes you in directions you didn't think possible.
