Review of My Kid Could Paint That (2007) by Maxim C — 29 Feb 2008
A movie that examines the fact or fiction debate about this four year old genius painter. What made this movie even more interesting is the different directions it takes throughout. Here is this innocent, talented, grinning four year old girl who just wants to paint and here we are watching all the chaos and hype surrounding her life.
From every day life to a star almost overnight and then declared a fraud. It's a fascinating look at the way the media works. What makes this movie so interesting is when you stop and realize that this little girl just wants to paint.
She doesn't care about money, she doesn't want to be on the cover of a magazine or be famous. She's this shy little girl that is doing what she loves and could care less how many cameras are around her snapping shots of her or how much her next painting is going to be sold for.
Meanwhile the parents are on a rollercoaster ride of fame and fortune followed by criticism and doubt to the point where even the filmmaker himself becomes curious as to what's really going on. The contrast between the little girl and the adults is what makes this movie shine.
She's the same girl at the beginning of the movie as she is at the end while the world around her changes because of her art, both for the positive and the negative. Any fan of documentaries or just anyone who wants to watch an interesting flick should check this out.
