Review of My Kid Could Paint That (2007) by Matthew B — 01 Jun 2008
Very interesting study of family and the proper balance of fame and childhood.
Not to mention take on modern art.
You see the turmoil of the mother versus the father, who sees no negatives in their 4 year old getting so much attention as a child prodigy.
But did the father help his daughter to the point of it all being a bit of a fraud?
Did the father even realize? Are they just victims of mean journalism?
Also interesting is the documentarian himself, as he starts to have his own doubts after starting to make a puff piece.
When they watch Charlie Rose call it all a fraud, the father is distraught. The mother who sensed something would happen all along, seems happy her daughter is no longer called a prodigy.
