Review of My Kid Could Paint That (2007) by Anne L — 17 Jul 2008
While the film raises some good questions like: What is a child prodigy? and "What qualifies as art?" I felt as a doc it was oddly executed with the director's interjections derailing any flow.
I'm not big on exploiting or spotlighting talent so young. Who benefits? I felt bad that this cutie was subjected to all this. Just let her paint and leave her alone! From my perspective, the father is suspect.
Being a father who paints with his 2 yr-old, I found his behavior at times reprehensible. In the end, it didn't hold me and I fell asleep. My wife had told me that it fittingly had an inconclusive ending.
