Review of My Kid Could Paint That (2007) by Max W — 02 Oct 2008
Some friends recommened this movie to me and I actually thought this documentary was really interesting. I didn't think Marla's work was actually art but I thought it was interesting than most abstract art.
But I totally didn't think she did the work herself. I think Her dad totally helped her. I think it's really unrealistic when a camera is around that she draws like a normal 4 year old but when the camera is off she paints work that is better than Picasso.
And in the movie there are clear hints that she had help. And I thought it was wrong for the parents to put Marla in the spotlight in the beginning. Especially with all the complaining the parents did when they were making the rounds with press and interviews.
After that 60 minutes special which could have totally put her out of the spotlight and let her live a normal childhood, they decide to put her back into the media. I smell they wanted more money. Overall, I thought it was a good movie to challenge us about this little girl and her paintings and what might be behind them afterall.
