Review of My Kid Could Paint That (2007) by Eugene K — 16 Jan 2009
A fantastic documentary about "What is art?" evolves into a film about the cost of fame and the innocence of childhood (among other things) as it plunges deeper and deeper into the mystery of the true origin of the paintings.
What I found most interesting about this piece is that the filmmaker, Amir Bar-Lev, becomes a part of the story even he starts to doubt whether or not the 4-year-old is in fact, the sole artist, and is then caught in a complex, ethical quandary.
The film delves into many though-provoking arenas, and touches on the fine lines between prodigy and freak; fame and notoriety. Highly, highly recommended.
