Review of My Girl (1991) by Jaykumar B — 28 Apr 2012
I don't understand why this film does not have a higher rating--- it's one of those movies that I always watch if it is playing on cable TV. I think the film is well-acted by the entire cast, including young actors (at the time) Anna Chlumsky and Macauley Culkin.
I enjoyed the backdrop of 70s music and fashions. Most of all, I enjoyed the realness of the plot. Many films meant for younger audiences do not tackle the issue of death and this film explores it from various angles.
While My Girl is a sweet, coming-of-age movie, it is definitely meant for viewers who are, minimally, 12 years old. The movie could definitely open up a lot of conversation between parents and their children.
