Review of My Girl (1991) by Connor D — 07 May 2015
"My Girl" is a sweet children's film about a little girl named Vada. She lives with her mortician father, and her mother was killed giving birth to her, and she may feel a little guilty for her death even though it certainly isn't her fault. She also feels comfortable with death since she basically lives in the funeral home. But when a tragic event occurs, she suddenly has to cope with the negative effects of horrific events.
"My Girl,"for me, is the perfect three star rating. It certainly is better than a five, but it doesn't have much more going for it. The acting by the little girl and the rest of the cast (including Dan Aykroyd and Jamie Lee Curtis) is great. But when you dive into the story is when you find almost a generic tale. It seems like a film that follows a simple formula that creates a simple film. But nonetheless, the finale is a tearjerker and it is a movie that I could see watching with my kids later on in life.
So, if you haven't seen this film, just know that it won't be anything innovative, but it is a good time nonetheless. 5.9/10.
