Review of My Favorite Year (1982) by Padraig W — 03 Nov 2007
A personal favourite. This film begins and ends with Peter O'Toole. A fantastic actor. That voice! There's no greater thrill than listening to an actor who can speak the English language with the grace, timing and eloquence it deserves.
And it takes an Irishman to do it! This is a film that plays like a sitcom. The character played by Mark Linn-Baker makes it feel even more so. But when Peter O'Toole walks into it, the film is transformed.
It still has that sitcom feel dragging it down from time to time, but the rambunctious charm and arch delivery of Peter O'Toole strikes sparks every time he is on the screen. He is such a special actor.
Charming.
