Review of My Favorite Wife (1940) by Dan B — 11 Sep 2008
A re-teaming of the screwball pairing of Grant and Dunne following the success of The Awful Truth. And indeed it many ways it is virtually identitcal, the two films forming a tiny sub-genre in which Grant & Dunne endlessly needle and deceive each other on the way to a romantic conclusion.
In some respects the movie has dated quite badly and the underlying callousness to Grant's new wife (Gail Patrick) makes it hard to fully warm to the leads. However, there are some fine moments and a lovely supporting turn from Randolph Scott.
