Review of My Favorite Wife (1940) by Geraint O — 09 Sep 2008
Good entertainment, a 1930s style comedy, (albeit released in 1940).
The chess game between the hapless Grant and Dunne, the perennial "will they won't they" question, but with the added twist of it being after years of separation, and it seeming that they've moved on is done very well. Basically how they sort of start again is done well, she was after him, (but he's got someone else) then it turns out she's got an attachment too, so the not quite so hapless Grant has got to get after her.
I suppose the nub of the film is how the two lead characters end up in the sort of situations where people of their age would not expect to be in- the wooing, the being wooed, the complications of having to get out of the other relationships.
Anyway it all ends up happily ever after, they both knew what they wanted, and eventually at the same time!
