Review of My Fair Lady (1964) by Humberto O — 20 Feb 2014
People usually talk about the casting of Audrey instead of Julie Andrews on this movie. I saw some of the singing performances of Audrey that were dubbed and she is, in fact, sub-par on that point. Would Julie sing better than Audrey? Absolutely.
Would she act better than Audrey? I'm not sure she would. This is the first movie I saw with Audrey, and I thought she's a spectacular actress, but I already saw many things with Julie Andrews and, although she's a good actress, I'm not sure the trade-off would be favorable.
Past that point, I'm impressed of how much I liked this movie, because musicals usually are boring and extremely cheesy, but this one is very interesting and none of the musical performances were able to annoy me.
The plot is interesting, the acting and singing is amazing. I noticed some editing flaws (at least I guess they're flaws, I don't know much about this), but otherwise the movie was perfect and the 3 hours flew by.
