Review of My Fair Lady (1964) by Dominic C — 23 Feb 2014
My Fair Lady is one of the greatest musicals ever created in my opinion. I have no complaints about this movie. The perfomances in this movie are unforgettable. I would have liked to see Julie Andrews in this role on stage, but Audrey Hepburn does a fantastic job.
Besides if she did this movie she couldn't play Mary Poppins! (And could we really picture anybody else playing her?) Rex Harrison does a great job as Professor Henry Higgins, hillairously misanthropic.
His character would generally be called a mysgonist, but he's more of a misanthrope as he clearly says "The question is not weather I treat you rudely, but weather you've ever seen me treat anyone else better.
", and it's true. He's quite often rude to Colnel Pickering and Eliza's father too. The film is quite funny particularly in the scenes of vocal lessons and Eliza swallows a marble. (Higgins:What's the matter? Eliza:I swallowed one! Higgins:Oh it doesn't matter.
I have plenty more open your mouth!)The songs (save You Did It perhaps)are wonderful. You Did It is minorly annoying, but I can't take away even half a point from this movie, I love it that much. My Fair Lady is a joyous feel good musical for the whole family.
