I really liked this film and surprised by it too. Frankie Muniz and Kevin Bacon are really good actors. Plus Frankie Muniz is such a cute little boy who really wants a dog. I was surprised by the serious subject matter the film dealt with (Soldiers coming home and the scrutiny they have to deal with) but with a light touch.
