(2003) My Date With Drew.
DOCUMENTARY.
After I had seen this, my initial reaction would be that Josh Larsen of the Sun Publications (Chicago, IL) says it best, where he said "Herzlinger (is) ... the kind of stalker you want to pet." And I must say that I know that I'm not involved into the process of making films except in terms of writing and casually discussing with people about them. That if someone were to want to work in the film industry that anyone is able to do that by offering your services if anyone were to look for someone and unable to find anyone else. In this documentary, that is exactly what Brian Herzlinger does, is that he would go to all of actress Drew Barrymore's contacts or make attempts to associate with Barrymore's supposedly closest people or associates, and he would try to get this one date with her and then use it for the documentary - not to pursue into the world of film making but to try to get this one date with a girl he doesn't really know because he has never met her nor has she ever met him, and then then see if he's compatible- nothing more , nothing less.
Herzlinger has about 1,100 dollars he won from a game show and instead of paying his bills with it he decides to use that money to make a documentary about getting this date with an actress Drew Barrymore. He'll even sacrifice any type of job just to get this one date. A cinch for well publicized people or celebrities in the business of exposure whether it's modeling, music and acting or something that needs promotion, but much harder to do for others. From looking at the big picture, it's very boring for as he's committed to get this date, that it's basically the exact same way anyone would want to get into the film or music business is by contacts with others in this field of entertainment that separates us from them. This gimmick is used as a ploy to tell people that he's a harmless stalker but instead of getting involved into the industry like what any normal person would have done, he decides to waste viewers time to say that theirs another way and that is to harass other people in the field who are close and know Barrymore professionally just so he could make this pointless documentary for I might as well be watching paint dry.
This documentary gets 40% for suckering me into watching this drivel for I haven't learned anything more than what I don't know from reading newspapers and watching the news.
2 out of 4 stars.
