Review of My Darling Clementine (1946) by Rich T — 02 Jan 2010
Begins memorably, and ends incredibly, but wanders in a void somewhat in the middle - where the narrative halts for a while. There is something very big missing from Ford's vision of Wyatt Erp's tale, and the film is as if it meant to be much more.
Fonda's depiction of Erp is undoubtedly brilliant, and as always, Ford doesn't disappoint in his direction. To go with that, the script is fantastic. But, there is a feeling that the film is almost transitional in Ford's telling of the Western - there is much more to come.
And it tells ten years later with The Searchers. However, this is film-making very very rarely matched.
