Review of My Darling Clementine (1946) by Dan P — 24 Jul 2012
John Ford created this tense and whole-hearted western tale about the legendary Wyatt Earp and his battle both with the law, and with a deadly gang stomping on his feet through the whole time. As he observes the rise of violence and corruption in a desolate town of Tombstone, he decides to become a marshall and finally clean out the city from all the outlaws and no-goodnicks.
As hard as it may seem, the Clanton gang makes his job enormously harder. While the plot oscillates around romance, bravery, gun fights, witty dialogues and true grit, the climatic finale gives a rewarding conclusion to the tale, making My Darling Clementine the finest Ford western without John Wayne in the cast.
And the titular song is a classic.
