Review of My Bloody Valentine (1981) by Tom R — 20 Oct 2011
(Uncut Edition) My Bloody Valentine is basically Friday the 13th as a whodunit with Valentines Day as a backdrop. Along with Prom Night and the first Friday the 13th, it sets the standard and tropes of slasher films, but I think My Bloody Valentine trumps them with its really good, really disgusting gore effects.
It's kind of odd that it's not as heralded as other holiday themed slashers Halloween and Black Christmas, but maybe because it's a Canadian production and not 'the great American slasher flick.
' My Bloody Valentine is a good slasher, which is a compliment since most slashers, even the good ones, are mostly hack and slash with not a lot of plot.
