Review of My Best Friend's Wedding (1997) by Jon C — 09 Sep 2013
Julia Roberts' performance is magnificent.
This movie rings true of 'Bridesmaids' and others of its kind.
Still it's not total formula.
Juilanne starts out to win back her best friend before his big wedding comes up and in the process takes a new 'best friend' in the form of the bride.
She figures if she can drive a wedge between them the wedding is called off and she can have the man of her dreams again.
There's quite an abundance of laughs during this whole ordeal.
At times you think Roberts' character is very shallow and being a tad selfish and destructive then again you see why she's so determined to get her best friend to realize that he loves her.
The music gets in the way a lot making the damn thing seem like an insufferable musical, however, the majority of the film is charming.
