Review of My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) by Hamad S — 20 Jan 2008
The story seems a bit scatter-brain, and the ending did not help tie it up at all. Although Kureishi does a good job showing the intersection of sexuality, class, race and gender within oppressive systems, nothing more is added to the conversation.
For a movie made in the 80s, though, it must have been a great breakthrough and certainly one much relished by the queer movement.
