Review of My Beautiful Laundrette (1985) by Hannah K — 06 Apr 2008
A quiet, slow-moving film that is not all that concerned with plot, but instead about examining the world that its characters inhabit. Namely: Thatcher-era Britain, and the issues of race, class, and sexuality.
Day-Lewis gives a tightly controlled performance that works well in this loosely constructed movie. The whole cast is fairly interesting, and though the pace is slow, the world of the film is deep and intricate.
