So in a movie like My All American, you have to differentiate between the story and the movie. The story of Freddie Stinemark is one worth telling, the movie about this guy isn't all that good. It's his story that makes this movie remotely worth watching, but the execution of this movie isn't all that great.

First of all the football sequences are shot on a sound stage and not in an actual stadium. I mean there are likely some shots done in a stadium, but the re-creation of old time football didn't seem real to me.

Next, this movie pours on the emotion like someone trying to peel an onion underneath your face to get you to cry. Any movie with a touching father/son dynamic will cause my emotions to stir, but this thing lays it on thick and heavy.

I love the work ethic of Stinemark, and wish every athlete no matter the sport would take on his persona. However, the why he worked so hard is brushed over quickly and I think is more important then winning the games he won.

Woodlawn is a much better football movie then My All American. It's not like you will hate this movie, but it's not great.
