Review of Mute (2018) by Wowsev Q — 02 Mar 2018
I just don't understand how this is getting so widely panned. It's getting like I just can't trust critics anymore to tell me whether a film is worth watching.. I'm getting particularly sick of people jumping on bandwagons in order to dismiss films out of hand. You can find many many reviews of this film that say it's shit but all them fail to say exactly why. And you know why that is? There is nothing wrong with this film.
Those who don't see the connections between the characters simply are not paying attention. Those who compare it unfavourably against Blade Runner should just - you know - go and watch fucking Blade Runner, those who think it is badly written should try writing something better. If I have any criticism at all, it's that it shows a near-impossible future world but hey, nothing wrong with that if it's just a film, right?
Jeez... there was a lot of good work went into this film and it shows; the visuals are amazing, the soundtrack busy and complex, the pacing atmospheric and appropriate, the plot and characters intriguing and apposite, and you lot are blind fools who wouldn't recognise a good effort if it walked all over your face.
