Review of Mustang (2015) by Peter F — 10 Apr 2016
Turkish film is a fully sincere coming-of-age story that's a strong note for feminist cinema. Looking at the hardships of women through the eyes of adolescents, Mustang is certainly a product of the political back drop of its country, but viewers may be surprised to find how universal it is too.
The script is smart and funny, and takes more than a few cues from American films in terms of narrative. I'll take off half-a-star for a slightly underdeveloped ending, but Mustang is a fully mature and necessary film for all audiences.
