Review of Mustang (2015) by Erwin T — 07 May 2017
The film cleverly balances tones of subdued comedy and flagrant despair while telling an absolutely riveting story about a culture of oppression. Although, I am unsure on whether this stunning cultural portrait is a representation of a common household in rural Turkey, or that of an extremely exaggerated one.
Nevertheless, Mustang's particularly timely message was delivered gracefully; alongside its remarkably natural performances, powerful score, and evocative cinematography.
