Review of Mustang (2015) by Wayne M — 01 Jun 2017
Mustang is a languidly beautiful film that deals with a tough subject in an even handed and subtle way. The story of 5 orphaned sisters in rural Turkey is powerful and beautifully rendered. Their story is an important one and thankfully handled with class and grace and honesty.
It shines a light on the treatment of women, or young girls. How they are subjugated to oppression and restriction in the name of conservative religion. There is great empathy here with the characters, who are portrayed wonderfully by a young cast.
