Review of Music Within (2007) by Hario P — 19 Apr 2008
It's another one of those inspirational biopics in which we've had more than our fair share of from Hollywood. Some of these biopics are truly great while others aren't that great, and others are just somewhere in between. I would place this movie as the one somewhere in between. It's a good movie nevertheless. I mean we've been treated to far greater calamities and sleeping pills.
Having said that, this movie does have it's fair share of it's moving scenes. Heartbreaking as well at times. Inspirational perhaps. And you can never get enough of diversity appreciation. I also have to praise Michael Sheen's portrayal as the cerebral palsy laden Art, he could have stole the entire movie had it been not for his role being pushed back into a distant corner by the script. In a perfect world I would have asked more from Livingston in delivering his main character role, because he seemed to lack a bit of passion.
Ultimately I just felt that there was so much more needed in order to raise this movie to another level. In the end it was just flat.
