Review of Muriel's Wedding (1994) by Adam S — 29 Feb 2012
Muriel's Wedding is a unique and well acted movie, held together by strong performances from Toni Collette and Bill Hunter.
It's not a terribly original story, with the story of an girl lacking in confidence searching for a mate having been done plenty of times before and since.
But it's the way Collette portrays Muriel that makes the character memorable.
Plus, the way the film manages to incorporate horrible issues such as cancer and political fraud into a storyline and, without trivialising it, not letting them take over the storyline. It's definitely very uniqe.
