Review of Murder on the Orient Express (2017) by David F — 10 Jun 2018
A heartfelt, emotional journey through one of the all time great murder mysteries.
Branagh, whilst perhaps initially jarring, slots nicely in to the role of one of the greatest detectives. Delivering a performance that is both charming and heartbreaking, he has become the new Poirot in hearts and minds for fans of agatha christies works. A performance David Suchet would have been proud of. A stellar ensemble cast deliver on every note, each seamlessly slotting in to their roles and cabins aboard the express.
Particular mention to Ridley and Jacobi have to be given, who were both delightful, but by the emotionally charged ending, the performance of the film is Branaghs who perfectly performs Poirots internal struggle.
The deliberately chlaustrophobic shots also deserve complimenting, really making the viewer feel trapped on this train with the killer.
Cinematography and score also both fantastic, complimenting the story beautifully. A must see!
