Review of Murder on the Orient Express (2017) by Jackson K — 29 Nov 2017
Murder on the Orient Express is a wonderful "who done it?" murder mystery film based on the 1934 novel of the same title by Agatha Christie. It stars Kenneth Branagh as the famous detective Hercule Poirot (Branagh also directed the film) and many other major stars such as Johnny Depp, Judi Dench and Daisy Ridley of Star Wars fame.
This movie weighs in on what justice is and explores right versus wrong, good versus evil and who has the right to judge these things. It is very touching and shows how the loss of one person can have a devastating impact on numerous people and families. This movie was also visually stunning, making you feel as if you were actually there on the train. The scene where lightening hits a mountain top, causing an avalanche that blocks the track is particularly amazing to watch. Branagh's directing was excellent and he was incredible as Hercule Poirot. However, the best element of the film was how suspenseful it was. Unless you've read the novel, it will keep you guessing until the very end.
The way the movie concluded, it hinted at another Hercule Poirot film possibly being made in the future. I'll be waiting eagerly for it!
