Review of Murder on the Orient Express (2017) by Lambo442 — 07 Nov 2018
This is escapism at it's finest, although you will also need to escape from any expectations of realistic dialogue or plot, but once you've done that hop on this luxury train and enjoy a very hammed up ride through Branagh's world.
I don't think the dialogue's supposed to be gritty and real anyway so it does it's job perfectly of setting up all of the safe cliches needed for a classic whodunnit. By far the coolest thing about the film though is the setting, which completely transports you away as the vintage train chugs through gorgeous landscapes.
It makes me wish I could experience a journey like that, it's just so...cosy. When I'm trying to get to sleep at night I imagine lying in one of those cute little rooms with the world passing by outside.
One bit that shocked me was how much a of a dick Poirot actually is. The victim repented and asked him to watch his back as he knew he was a marked man and Poirot straight up told him no, practically sentencing him to death.
So he'll solve your murder but he certainly won't help to keep you alive. Where's the fun in that? Oh well, at least he's got some depth to him.
