Review of Murder by Death (1976) by Sam P — 11 Apr 2012
I first saw Murder By Death when I was about 13 years of age, and as just a teenager, when I first watched this, whilst I didnâ(TM)t laugh out loud often, I chuckled quite often, and I enjoyed the performances, each actor playing the entire movie straight as opposed to mugging for the cameras. The jokes are often, some arenâ(TM)t so great, usually whichever jokes the Belgian Detective says, but the rest of them are pretty strong I felt.
You have classic actors such as Peter Sellers (who was probably the most consistently funny), Peter Falk, David Niven, Maggie Smith & Alec McGuinness, who have all impressed me in the past in their performances, and this were just as strong as usual. One surprising inclusion was the performance of Truman Capote, not an actor, but he held his own throughout the film, which was impressive.
To be honest, this isnâ(TM)t a classic, but it is worth a watch, you donâ(TM)t have to think much, just smile and enjoy.
