Review of Murder by Death (1976) by Anna B — 02 Jul 2012
I was worried in the beginning, the gags are very cheesy and flatly delivered, and Sellers is doing his ching chong Chinaman routine. But once the plot kicks in it becomes apparent that the whole thing is a goof on shitty TV mysteries, the jokes, though still cheesy, start to build on each other and settle into the dialogue more naturally, and wonder of wonders, the Chinaman bit is lampshaded as stereotypical ("Say your goddamn pronouns!").
So after a wobbly first act I ended up enjoying it quite a bit. Truman Capote cannot act.
