Review of Muppet Treasure Island (1996) by Adam D — 19 Mar 2012
Genre = 1996 Family-Adventure & Musical-Comedy: Scotland's beloved Billy Connolly and England's mischievous Tim Curry join your favorite Muppets--along with some scurvy infested, plank walking new ones--and a talented, young Kevin Bishop on this daring adventure.
It is Johnny Depp's Pirates of the Carribean done only the way Henson can--Brian Henson, that is (Jim's son). All the usual suspects are along for this fun boat ride--from Animal and Beaker to Fozzy and Kermit.
One point of note: Although it has the typical G-rating for a Muppet movie, we feel it has more mature, somewhat darker humor than usual, to the point if being downright macabre in parts, even in some of the pirate song lyrics.
Additionally, it falls a bit flat here and there, yet what ship doesn't hit the high-sea doldrums every once in a while? The important thing is it takes you back to your childhood of watching their shows and movies, plus it contains everything you've grown to expect and enjoy from the great Muppets.
