There's just too much in that book to cover in a single movie, making the film seem rushed. It's a bit of a political piece for Spielberg - he goes so far as to implicate the CIA in the Munich massacre as employers of Salameh.
The book is far better. (I bet HBO could turn this story into an amazing miniseries...).
