Review of Munich (2005) by Dave R — 19 Nov 2010
I'm not really a fan of spielberg due to his tendency to moralize with a very heavy hand. but I decided to give this a try because I was curious to see what he did with it.
The story is pretty straightforward: arab terrorists kill israelis at the 1972 olympics in germany. the israelis decided to strike back. unfortunately, the scope of the issue is too big to be captured- even in a nearly 3 hour movie. a lot of the details are left out and what we get are broad strokes that just don't do justice to the events. spielberg seems content to show us what he thinks is the futility of tit for tat as a strategy, which is debatable. and maybe that was his intent - to stir up debate.
I will say that the cast gave good performances though.
