Review of Munich (2005) by Daniel K — 27 Jul 2011
An example of a recent Spielberg movie I actually enjoyed watching. Way better than "The Terminal" or "A.I.", which came out around the same time. Good acting and deep, realistic characters. Managed to upset both Palestinian irredentists and Likudniks. Takes more risks than most of Spielberg's recent output. Still a bit bogged down in his habit of over sentimentalizing everything.
The movie got criticism for supposedly promoting the idea of moral equivalency between Black September and Mossad (basically by showing Mossad agents doing what they often do, acting like a freelance assassination squad who answer to no one), when in fact Mossad's more egregious misdeeds are ignored by the film (murdering an innocent Moroccan they mistook for a terrorist).
