Review of Mum & Dad (2008) by Trent R — 18 May 2009
Badly overhyped, this fits in with the recent wave of European and particularly French films reacting to immigration and Nationalism with rural and suburban horror-satire, (Ils, Frontiere(s), Sheitan, Calvaire).
It is not part of the ridiculous misnomer - torture porn - a non-genre and ridiculously uninformative, media-produced term. However, this is also not an interesting take on the terrible underworld beneath suburban veneer.
Despite a couple of fine performances, it is uninspired and simplistic.
