Review of Mulholland Dr. (1999) by Ernesto S — 05 Feb 2012
My favorite movie of all time, up there with Hitchcock's Vertigo, is the most fascinating puzzle ever done on the screen. A movie that requires the audience to have fun deconstructing it and constructing it.
The brilliant part is that nothing is gratitious. All the pieces are there. Everything has a logic after you see it three times. As hipnotic as Vertigo, it's also another tale of obsession gone bad.
The use of music, colors and symbols throughout the film will spark discussions among film students for years to come. It's the most original piece of American film making in decades. And you'll be thinking about it for a long time.
Silencio... Silencio... Silencio.
