Review of Mulholland Dr. (1999) by Ad V — 01 Sep 2012
It seems all of my favorite directors managed to disappoint me during a four year span. John Carpenter did it in 1998 with Vampires, David Cronenberg did it in 2002 with Spider and Lynch in 2001 with this film.
I've watched it twice now and as much as I really want to like it, I can't. I felt like Lynch was trying to hard to be Lynch and thus it is ultimately nothing more than moments, ideas and gimmicks from Lynch's previous (and superior) films thrown all together complete with a character shift/jump that he had just used in his previous film Lost Highway.
