Review of Mulholland Dr. (1999) by Devin P — 05 Apr 2016
A very strange film, led by a terrific performance from Naomi Watts. The movie is kind of a mess and certainly one of Lynch's most challenging works for me (along with 'Wild at Heart', probably). It works in the end though thanks to how well the madness is ultimately brought together.
There was a lot that I just didn't like about this, and it pretty much all relates to its unconventional structure and genre-twisting approach. However, Watts is so great that I stayed with it and I'm glad that I did because, by the end, the film's heady themes are on full display and you're certainly kept thinking throughout.
One for fans of Lynch's work- for others, it'll likely require some perseverance but, it's worth it.
